What is a Life Coach and Who Would Benefit from Coaching?

A life coach is like a personal trainer for your mind. Our job is to help you tap into the incredible power of your mind to create new results in your life. Your brain has tens of thousands of thoughts every day which are creating your results whether you are aware of it or not.

Life coaching has been shown to reduce procrastination, increase satisfaction and improve goal achievement. It has been shown to reduce emotional exhaustion and burnout as well as improve quality of life and resilience in physiciansThe doctors in the study didn't get a new medical system, different patients or an upgraded electronic medical record to make their lives easier. They got an upgraded mind.

You've probably heard the Serenity Prayer. "God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference."

Life coaching is basically really effective application of this. What's amazing to me is that so many things are within our control that we don't realize.

Our untrained minds spend so much energy trying to change the things that aren't in our control—things like the past, world events, and other people—that we miss a lot of opportunities to change what is within our control—things like our thoughts, feelings, behaviors, results, and future. And it happens to everyone.

Even the best life coaches in the world get coached because it's impossible to see the best way out from the middle of maze. You need someone who can see the aerial view.

We try so hard to control the outside world and other people because we think that's what we need to do to feel happy. To stop feeling anxious. To stop being so tired. We think the answer to feeling fulfilled and at peace is out there somewhere.

But the truth is that we create all of those for ourselves. We create our happiness, our anxiety, our fatigue, our fulfillment.

To feel better and create new results, you don't need the world or the people around you to change. You don't need your work to treat you differently (although you can always leave a situation if you choose to) or your partner to keep healthier food in the house. You have everything you need. You just need to learn how to unlock the door.

That's where a life coach comes in. A life coach will help you get new results by helping you:

  • See what's going on in your brain—which beliefs and thoughts are serving you and which ones are giving you results that you don't want.

  • Learn to process your emotions. Learning how to allow emotions instead of avoiding or pushing them away unlocks a world of possibilities. Being able to sit with discomfort instead of running from it is the key to massively leveling up your results.

  • Learn to believe new things. Not only that, but they will almost always believe for you while you are learning to believe on your own. When you can learn to believe new things is when you'll see a huge breakthrough in the results you can achieve.

If you currently feel really good, are going after your goals, are making progress at a speed you're happy with, and have your back when you make a misstep (i.e. don't beat yourself up when things don't work), you may not need a life coach.

However, if you want to create different results, if you are feeling overworked or worn out, or if you're struggling with one or more of your relationships, life coaching would help you. (Notice I didn't say "could", I said "would". I'm 100% certain coaching would help you.)

Life coaching isn't just for people who are struggling or who aren't happy with their lives. It's for anyone who wants to optimize their life experience and maximize their results. That's why so many successful people invest in a coach. The transformation they experience in their lives is worth it.
